A man charged with public intoxication and threatening behaviour has been remanded on bail, after writing the words “f*** off” across his bail bond during the hearing.

Kealan Broughan (30) of 22 Heatherwood, Bray, Co. Wicklow was charged at Bray District Court with being intoxicated in a public place and threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place at Southern Cross Road, Bray.

During the hearing, the defendant signed a bail bond, but wrote the words “f*** off” across the document. Judge David Kennedy remanded Mr Broughan in custody and he was brought back before the court’s second calling.

During the second calling, the solicitor for Mr Broughan apologised for his client’s actions and told the court that he was “extremely remorseful”. On the day in question, he added that his client “drank too much whiskey due to the stress of his grandmother being ill”.

The court then heard that when charged Mr Broughan’s reply was “go f*** yourself”. The court was told that the accused is earning €244 per week and pays €80 to his grandmother for weekly rent.

Judge Kennedy issued disclosure to Brendan Maloney & Company Solicitors and told Mr Broughan: “I should keep you in jail to annoy you for the way you reacted.”

Mr Broughan was remanded on a bond of €300 plus €100 cash. The case was adjourned to October 13, 2025, at Bray District Court.
