A judge has adjourned a careless driving case against a driver clocked at 130kmh after he failed to turn up at Sligo District Court.

Daniel Flannery (20) of Stonepark, Ballymote was charged with careless driving on the N4 Knoxpark, Sligo on October 25, 2024. The defendant did not appear.

Garda John Caroll told the court that at 1.35pm, he was on mobile patrol when he noticed the defendant driving in front of him at a speed of 130kmh. Flannery was then pursued by Garda Carroll who had to reach speeds of 160kmh in order to stop him.

Flannery was issued a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice which went unpaid.

The court heard that the defendant had two previous convictions for careless driving.

Noting the speed that Garda Carroll had to travel at to stop the defendant, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham said that it was a serious matter.

She adjourned the case to December 10 for sentencing for Flannery to give mitigation.
