Juan Antonio Gallardo Barroso was sentenced to eight years in prison at the Special Criminal Court for his part in a conspiracy to import controlled drugs into Ireland. The court had set an 18-year headline sentence for each co-conspirator, then reduced it to account for guilty pleas and other individual mitigation.
The men had pleaded guilty to conspiring to import controlled drugs between 27 February and 14 March 2024. Judge Karen O’Connor said the group had seriously underestimated the vigilance of local people and Irish law enforcement.
