Joseph Brady was sentenced to seven years, with the final 12 months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 May 2021 for possessing heroin and cannabis for sale or supply.

Brady pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cannabis for sale or supply at locations in Priorswood on 19 August 2019. The proceedings were reported on 10 May 2021.

The report said Brady dropped a bag containing heroin valued at €211,708 after seeing gardaí, while further heroin and €1,325 were found on him. A home search found €2,800 and cannabis valued at €5,404.

Garda Ciaran Upton agreed Brady was not under surveillance and would not admit who owned the drugs. Defence counsel Paul Murray SC said a drug debt led Brady to collect the bag, and his family home had been petrol bombed because of his brother’s drug addiction.

Judge Melanie Greally said Brady had been actively involved in drug dealing and noted that he had addressed his drug use in prison. The final suspended year required him to follow all Probation Service directions for 12 months after release.
