Jonathan Gill appeared at Drogheda District Court facing three charges of false imprisonment and one charge of stealing €661,125 from An Post at West Street, Drogheda, Co Louth. The proceedings were reported on 8 November 2013.

The false imprisonment of three people was alleged to have taken place at a location in the State between 1 and 2 August 2011. The post office robbery was alleged to have taken place on 2 August 2011.

Garda Sergeant Fearghal O'Toole gave evidence that he arrested Gill at his Malahide Road address and brought him to Drogheda Garda Station. He told the court that Gill made no reply when the four charges were put to him.

Sgt O'Toole said he was applying for Gill to be remanded in custody to appear in court in Cloverhill the following Tuesday. Defence barrister Irene Sands told Judge Michael Coghlan there was no bail application at that time, but she anticipated one at the next appearance.

Sands also submitted a statement of means as part of an application for legal aid. Judge Coghlan reserved his decision.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
