John Gibson jailed for sexual assaults on children

John Gibson was jailed for two years for sexual assaults on two children at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 1 April 2019. The assaults occurred at a Christian Brothers’ School in Co Wexford in 1983 and 1985.
Gibson had denied three indecent assault charges but was found guilty of all counts by a jury after a trial. Judge Elma Sheahan imposed one-year prison sentences for each assault, with the later sentence running consecutively to the sentences for the 1983 offences.
The judge had earlier ruled that there were no compelling grounds to prevent the media naming Gibson or reporting the case. She said a warning in any future trial would be sufficient to address potential prejudice.
