Jimmy Devaney pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to murdering Marie Greene. The proceedings were reported on 16 July 2015. The prosecution alleged that the murder occurred at Annagorta bog in Ballykieran outside Athlone on 13 February 2011.

The trial had begun, with the prosecution alleging that Mr Devaney picked Ms Greene up at 7.56pm that evening before killing her.
