Jim Mansfield jnr’s trial for conspiring to falsely imprison Martin Byrne resumed at the Special Criminal Court on 26 July 2021. He has pleaded not guilty to that charge and to attempting to pervert the course of justice by directing CCTV footage to be destroyed.

The trial had been adjourned for more than seven months while his lawyers reviewed previously undisclosed CCTV footage. The court heard that witnesses in the Witness Protection Programme were expected to continue giving evidence, while further questions for Martin Byrne remained possible.
