Jerry Lane granted challenge over corruption report refusal

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Lane was granted permission to challenge the refusal to provide him with a report into corruption allegations at the High Court on 11 December 2017.

The allegations concerned claimed preferential treatment within the Defence Forces. The report was commissioned in 2016, but the Department of Defence decided it would not rely on it or publish it, while a fresh review was established.

Lane seeks access to the first report, arguing that its findings could affect his reputation and that withholding it breached fair procedures and his constitutional rights.

The proceedings were brought against the Minister for Defence, Ireland and the Attorney General, with the matter returned to February.
