Jane Crowe was awarded €2,280 after the Workplace Relations Commission found two complaints about her redundancy from Debenhams well founded. The proceedings were reported on 16 May 2023.

The test case concerned the company’s consultation and information duties in a collective redundancy and could have implications for around 750 former workers represented by Mandate.

The compensation consisted of €1,140, equivalent to four weeks’ pay, for each complaint. At a hearing in October 2022, Mandate argued that the redundancy decision had been made before 9 April 2020 and copper-fastened on 16 April, but that the first consultation with the union had taken place on 17 April. Liquidator KPMG argued that it had complied with its information and consultation requirements.
