Jamie Harbron was sentenced to 13½ years in prison at the Special Criminal Court on 4 July 2025 for attempting to possess cocaine for sale or supply. Ms Justice Melanie Greally passed sentence alongside Judge Sarah Berkeley and Judge Gráinne Malone.
Harbron pleaded guilty to attempting to possess cocaine for sale or supply at a location within the State between 21 and 25 September 2023. The proceedings were reported on 4 July 2025.
An earlier report said Harbron faced a further charge of contributing to an activity while intending or being reckless as to whether it could facilitate an organised crime group in committing a serious offence.
Seven other men were sentenced alongside Harbron for offences arising from the seizure of cocaine from the MV Matthew. The court heard that the haul was valued at €157 million. The three-judge court set headline sentences ranging from 22 to 30 years and reduced each sentence after considering mitigating factors.
Ms Justice Greally said the defendants played important roles in an operation involving a vast quantity of drugs and a criminal organisation with international reach. She also said none belonged to the organisation’s upper echelons, owned the drugs or stood to profit from their sale.
