James Feery gave evidence at Dublin Coroner’s Court on 13 December 2023 about the Stardust fire, which killed 48 people. He said his friend Noel Quigley had told him that exits three, four, five and six were chained, with furniture against some doors.
Feery described smoke filling the foyer as people tried to break glass panels in the front door for air. He was pushed outside when the doors opened and said he thought he was dying.
He also said Murtagh “Murty” Kavanagh and Margaret Thornton were sitting behind him in the north alcove before he tried to escape.
