James Anthony Tighe wins extradition case over tax fraud
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
James Anthony Tighe won an extradition case over alleged tax fraud and money laundering when the Supreme Court refused his delivery on 21 December 2010. The court cited major conflicts in the European arrest warrant issued in the UK.
The three-judge court found that the warrant gave conflicting classifications for three alleged conspiracy offences. It also failed to specify the circumstances of the alleged money-laundering offence or Mr Tighe’s alleged involvement.
The court further held that the relevant charges did not correspond to offences in Irish law in the circumstances described.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
