The Workplace Relations Commission found that James Ajibola suffered racial discrimination by his former employer, BGS Security Ltd, in a decision published on 6 May 2026. It awarded him €1,000 for the discrimination and further redress for other employment rights breaches after he worked as a security guard in Dublin without pay.

Adjudicator Michael McEntee found that the complaints were unopposed and concluded they should succeed. He awarded €1,000 for the breach of the Employment Equality Act, €3,337.46 for failure to comply with the security trade employment regulation order, and further redress for working time breaches, bringing the total to €4,720.46.

The adjudicator also directed payment of a Sunday premium, at a rate to be agreed by the liquidator and the union. Ajibola had previously received an award of just over €3,300 for unpaid wages in February 2025, but that earlier decision had not been enforced.
