Jailed Wicklow man given further prison time for dealing heroin
The Wicklow PeopleA man described by gardaí as a well-known heroin dealer has received a further prison sentence, despite already serving a four-year term for drug offences.
David Teelan (46), of Hazelwood, Bray, appeared before Bray District Court for sentencing, after pleading guilty to one count under Section 3 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
A further charge of possession of drugs for sale or supply was struck out at a previous sitting.
The court heard that in March 2021, Mr Teelan was observed by a garda handing a bag to another man outside Bray Primary Health Care Centre.
The man was stopped shortly afterwards and found to be in possession of a bag of heroin with a street value of €33.
The court was told that Mr Teelan received a four-year sentence in 2025 at Wicklow Circuit Court for heroin dealing. During the sentencing hearing, gardaí from Bray Garda Station said that between May and November 2021 they observed Mr Teelan selling heroin on four separate occasions on Bray Main Street.
It was also heard that Mr Teelan’s girlfriend acted as the “money person”, collecting cash from the drug sales.
Gardaí told the court that during his Circuit Court case, Mr Teelan was well known to them and within the local drug trade for selling drugs outside McDonald’s on Bray Main Street.
Judge David Kennedy remarked that “whatever I do today won’t matter”. Solicitor for the defence, Joe Maguire, told the court that his client is now drug-free since entering prison and has a job while incarcerated.
The court also heard that Mr Teelan hopes to return to work upon his release from the Midlands Prison.
Judge Kennedy imposed a sentence of four months imprisonment. His sentence will run concurrently to his current sentence.
