Jacqueline Durcan has fraud sentence cut from 12 to six months

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jacqueline Durcan had her 12-month fraud sentence reduced to six months by the Court of Appeal on 23 January 2017. She had been sentenced in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after client-account transactions between 2008 and 2011.

The Court of Appeal upheld the need for custody but found that a sentence somewhat less than 12 months was appropriate. The judgment records that clients were compensated through the Solicitors’ Compensation Fund, which Durcan later reimbursed in full.

The court allowed her appeal against the severity of sentence and imposed a six-month custodial term. The judgment also records her cooperation with the Law Society and Garda investigation, together with an early plea.
