Jack Ward and Kelvin Kleinovis received fully suspended prison terms at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for recklessly handling the proceeds of crime; the proceedings were reported on 16 February 2022.

Both men pleaded guilty to the charge, contrary to the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act 2010.

Judge Melanie Greally suspended Ward’s eight-month term on 15 February 2022, noting money entering his account was returned after the bank froze it.

Judge Pauline Codd separately suspended Kleinovis’s two-year term; the report said he had expressed remorse and was trying to repay money.

The report said Kleinovis received €26,400, transferred €9,700 to Ward, and neither man was suspected of creating the bogus email.

Ward’s defence said he had been promised a ten per cent payment for providing bank details and accepted his conduct was impulsive and immature.
