HSE secures High Court order for data on cyber attack uploads

The High Court ordered Chronicle Security Ireland Ltd and Chronicle LLC to provide subscriber details linked to confidential HSE material uploaded and downloaded through VirusTotal, reported on 29 June 2021.

The order covers subscriber information such as email addresses, phone numbers, IP addresses and physical addresses. Chronicle did not oppose the order, but said it could not provide the details without a court order for data protection reasons.

The HSE said about 27 files had been downloaded to VirusTotal and that subscribers accessed the material 23 times before Chronicle removed it on 25 May. The material reportedly included sensitive patient information, correspondence, meeting minutes and corporate documents.
