HSE secures High Court order for cyber-attack data details

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court ordered Chronicle to provide the HSE with subscriber details linked to confidential data taken in the cyber attack, in a ruling reported on 29 June 2021.

The order covers people who uploaded or downloaded the material to VirusTotal and allows the HSE to seek email, phone, IP and physical address details. Chronicle did not oppose the order, saying data protection rules prevented disclosure without a court order.

The court was told earlier that about 27 files were uploaded to the service and downloaded 23 times before Chronicle removed them on 25 May. The HSE said the files included sensitive patient information, correspondence and corporate documents.
