An Executive Registrar with the HSE won a WRC case for the €1,000 Pandemic Special Recognition Payment, reported on 6 June 2024.

The registrar oversaw births, deaths and marriages and conducted civil ceremonies. She said she remained in the office and met the public during the pandemic, initially without personal protective equipment; she also conducted ceremonies in registry offices and hotels.

The HSE said its HR management did not consider Civil Registration services a Covid-exposed environment or clinical setting. The WRC recommended the payment as a way forward to resolve the dispute.
