Hospital consultant doctors settled breach of contract claims at the High Court on 15 June 2018, securing corrected and retrospective remuneration.

The claims concerned alleged failures to honour pay commitments in the 2008 Consultants Contract. The settlement was reported as potentially costing the State €200 million and adding €60 million annually to the consultants’ pay bill.

Ms Justice Úna Ní Raifeartaigh made the settlement terms an order of the court. The agreement also covered other consultants with pending claims and eligible non-litigating consultants.
