Hospital consultants lose age discrimination case at WRC

Eleven hospital consultants lost their age discrimination test cases at the Workplace Relations Commission, reported on 1 March 2024.

The complaints concerned lower pay for consultants appointed after 1 October 2012 than for earlier appointees doing comparable work. The tribunal found the pay difference arose from the later appointment date and red-circling, and dismissed the test cases.

The WRC considered the complaints at public hearings between November 2022 and September 2023. The decisions were released on the morning of 1 March 2024.
