The High Court adjourned an unnamed mother’s application concerning breastfeeding her newborn son after Judge Mary Rose Gearty was told on December 10 that additional affidavits and responses were required. The mother claimed her baby was becoming ill after being prevented from breastfeeding, while the report said the child was later admitted to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The application was brought under Article 40 of the Constitution. The mother’s barrister, Robert Barron, stressed that it concerned the breastfeeding issue, and Judge Gearty described the application as “very unusual” and “innovative”. The proceedings were reported on 22 December 2025.
