Hertz Rent-a-Car has amended its terms and conditions after the Workplace Relations Commission found it discriminated against Kim Murphy, a blind customer travelling with her guide dog. The WRC had ordered the company to update its policies to make specific provision for people with disabilities, including guide-dog users.
The case followed a €150 cleaning charge on a Hertz rental vehicle in which Murphy had travelled with her guide dog. The WRC found the charge discriminatory and ordered Hertz to pay her €10,000, apologise and update its policies and procedures. The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission said Hertz confirmed the terms changes to it.
