This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Henry McGowan has been committed to the Central Mental Hospital for continued treatment after a jury found him not guilty of murdering his father by reason of insanity. The court heard on February 26 that he continues to have a severe relapsing mental illness and could deteriorate without care.

Consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Mark Joynt told the court McGowan accepted his diagnosis and the need for treatment, and was committed to remaining on medication. He recommended that McGowan remain at the hospital, where his condition will be reviewed at intervals of no more than six months. The judge ordered his detention until a further order is made under the relevant legislation.
