Google race-discrimination complaint remains undecided at WRC

Former Google accounts strategist Eyob Van Haute brought a Workplace Relations Commission complaint under the Employment Equality Act 1998, alleging race discrimination after his dismissal on performance grounds in July 2025. The proceedings were reported on 20 March 2026.

Van Haute told the WRC that he was treated less favourably than equivalent colleagues and that his dismissal did not result from a fair and consistent assessment of performance. Rosemary Mallon BL, acting for Google, argued that he had failed to establish a prima facie case and applied for the evidence-taking to end so the matter could go straight to a decision.

Adjudication officer Orla Jones said she needed more time to consider Google's application. She said she would write to the parties with her decision and indicate whether there would be a further hearing on the complaint.
