Geraldine Cantrell investors can pursue AIB damages claims

Geraldine Cantrell and other Belfry investors can pursue tort damages claims after a High Court ruling on 28 April 2017.
The claims arose from investments in property schemes involving Allied Irish Banks, with properties held through UK-based Belfry companies.
The court found contract claims statute barred because proceedings began more than six years after the investments were entered.
However, tort claims were not barred because the alleged loss arose later, including when fund investments were written down.
The court said the eight selected proceedings involved claims exceeding 300 related cases and would guide similar issues.
