This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Gemma O'Doherty and John Waters were ordered by the High Court to pay costs over their Covid-19 laws challenge, reported on 4 June 2020. They are appealing the dismissal of their action to the Court of Appeal.

Mr Justice Charles Meenan said the costs covered the Minister for Health, the Attorney General and the Dáil, Seanad and Ceann Comhairle. He said the costs should be limited to the two-day hearing of the application. The judge said their proceedings were not in the public interest because they had not meaningfully addressed the opposing case or supported their arguments with facts or expert opinion.
