Gary O’Sullivan challenged his redundancy at a Workplace Relations Commission hearing on 21 April 2022, arguing it was not genuine.
The Cork driving range’s owners said stray golf balls damaged neighbouring homes and caused safety concerns. Michael Ryan told the hearing the business reduced the range’s bays by two thirds, leaving no need for O’Sullivan’s greenkeeper role.
O’Sullivan’s representative said he believed the dismissal followed a workplace row in July 2020 and that there had been no consultation about redundancy. The owners maintained the redundancy was genuine.
Adjudicating officer Michael McEntee adjourned the hearing to consider his decision, which he said was likely to be delivered within seven to eight weeks.
