Galway man is accused of driving jeep at four people

Conrad Rayner (29), with an address at Roveagh, Kilcolgan, appeared at Galway District Court , on five charges arising from an incident at the Old Dublin Road on October 12, 2025.
Garda John Browne told the court he arrested the accused by appointment at Galway Courthouse before charging him with five offences.
The court heard Rayner made no reply to any of the charges after caution.
Garda Browne said there was no objection to bail, subject to the accused abiding by conditions.
These include observing a curfew between 12am and 5am, and Garda Browne confined the accused had already handed over his passport.
Sergeant Damien Prendergast said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed prosecution on indictment in Galway Circuit Court with consent for the accused to be sent forward on a signed plea of guilty, should it arise.
Judge Fiona Lydon remanded the accused on bail to appear again on April 15.
Barrister Paul Kilraine BL asked that legal aid be assigned to solicitor Brian Gilmartin but Judge Lydon deferred a decision on legal aid until a statement of means of the accused is provided.
In the case, Conrad Rayner is charged with endangerment contrary to section 13 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.
The charge alleges Rayner intentionally or recklessly created a risk of death or substantial harm by driving a black Skoda jeep , at speed, towards a group of four pedestrians.
The charge alleges this caused three of the pedestrians to take evasive action by jumping out of the way to the ground and caused the fourth pedestrian to be struck by the motor vehicle.
He also faces three charges contrary to section 106 of the Road Traffic Act: failing to offer assistance, having been a driver involved in the occurrence of injury to a man, who appeared to require assistance; failing to stop a vehicle, such vehicle not being stationery; failing to keep a vehicle at or near the place of an occurrence.
