Four men were convicted of sexually abusing their deaf relative after a 131-day trial at the Central Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 13 July 2026. The convicted men were an uncle and three of her younger half-brothers. All seven defendants denied the charges against them.

Accused C was found guilty of ten counts: three rapes, two anal rapes and one sexual assault of the main complainant between 2003 and 2010; sexual assault and two rapes of a second sister between 2005 and 2006 and between 2015 and 2018 respectively; and the anal rape of a third sister between September 2010 and September 2014. The jury returned the final nine guilty verdicts against him on 10 June 2026, after finding him guilty of the third sister’s anal rape the previous day.

Accused B, the woman’s uncle, was convicted of three rapes and one anal rape of her between 2006 and 2014. Accused E was convicted of two counts of anally raping her between 2007 and 2009. Accused F was convicted of one rape of her during that period. The jury could not agree on a remaining rape charge against Accused F.

The jury also could not agree on rape charges against two other uncles, Accused A and Accused G. The Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew those charges on 13 July. Charges against a fourth brother, Accused D, had been withdrawn during the trial after the prosecution evidence.

Ms Justice Caroline Biggs issued a bench warrant for Accused C after he failed to appear for the remaining verdicts. His sentence hearing could not proceed in his absence. Defence counsel said psychological reports for Accused E and Accused F would not be ready until October, and mitigation pleas for the three men were scheduled for 19 October 2026.
