Killian McNay, 40, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for organising the importation of cocaine worth an estimated €2.8 million into Dublin Port. He admitted importing the drugs and possessing 40kg for sale or supply at the port on September 22, 2024.
The cocaine was found in specially adapted containers concealed beneath a flat-bed trailer carrying Lego for Lidl stores. The trailer arrived in an articulated truck and was intercepted by customs officers. The court heard McNay hired a driver and travelled with him to Holland to ensure the load was properly placed; the driver was still before the courts when the report was published.
The sentencing judge said McNay had been engaged to transport the drugs and inferred he expected a reward. The court also heard that he was under financial pressure and made admissions about his role.
