Five family members whose names were withheld were found guilty of sexual offences against children at the Central Criminal Court on 6 August 2021. The offences were alleged to have taken place in Munster between 18 August 2014 and 28 April 2016.

The children’s mother was found guilty of all 25 counts against her, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation and wilful neglect. The children’s father, aunt, aunt’s husband and uncle were also found guilty of multiple offences; the 27-year-old uncle was found not guilty of one count of sexual exploitation.

The jury returned verdicts after a ten-week trial and 19 hours and 54 minutes of deliberations. The judge remanded all five in custody pending sentencing, and the case was due back on 4 October for a sentence date to be set.
