Five pharmacy workers lose bonus complaints over mask breaches

Five unnamed pharmacy workers lost complaints over mask-wearing breaches at work, after the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found their employer’s warnings and resulting loss of bonuses reasonable. The report was published on 15 July 2022.
The workers brought claims under the Industrial Relations Act after final written warnings were imposed. On internal appeal, the warnings were reduced to first written warnings, but remained live when bonus payments were made, leaving the workers without those bonuses.
The WRC adjudicator, Breiffni O’Neill, found in favour of the employer in all five cases and made no recommendation favourable to the workers. The report says the warnings had since expired and been expunged from their files.
