Five unnamed family members were found guilty of child sexual abuse at the Central Criminal Court on 6 August 2021, after a ten-week trial. The offences against three children were alleged to have occurred in Munster between 18 August 2014 and 28 April 2016. The children’s mother, father, aunt, her husband and an uncle were found guilty of all but one of 78 counts, after 19 hours and 54 minutes of jury deliberations. The judge remanded all five in custody pending a later sentencing date. One 27-year-old uncle was found not guilty of one sexual-exploitation count; the remaining accused were convicted on every count against them.
