Five CAB officers sue State over field work allowance

By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Five Criminal Asset Bureau officers are suing the State over their claim to a higher field work allowance. The proceedings were reported on 30 April 2019. The officers cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The officers, who work as forensic accountants and financial crime analysts, claim they should receive the €19,000 annual allowance paid to other non-Garda CAB officers. They say their duties include search operations, interviews, court documents and giving evidence, while the State denies discrimination and says their claims are misconceived and statute barred.

An allowance of €9,500 per year was sanctioned for the five in 2008. The report said they had received an increased allowance of €9,500 per year in 2011, which they never formally accepted.

The action, before Mr Justice Senan Allen, was continuing when reported.
