Fisherman claimed he had knife to cut sausages at beach barbecue

A fisherman who had a small knife disguised as a key told gardaí he had been at a barbecue on the beach and had it to cut sausages, a court has heard.
Martin Marinko (52) also told gardaí to “f**k off and go home” in a separate public order incident.
Judge Stephanie Coggans fined Marinko €500.
The defendant, of Clongriffin, admitted possession of a blade at Hamlet Lane in Balbriggan on April 19.
Swords District Court heard Marinko had a two-inch blade disguised as a key, with no reasonable excuse for having it.
In an incident on February 21, gardaí found Marinko sitting in the middle of Hamlet Lane, causing cars to steer around him, the court heard.
He was very intoxicated, and gardaí were worried about his safety. They tried to move him, and he told them to “f**k off and go home”.
Defence solicitor Paul Molloy said Marinko, a fisherman, was originally from Slovakia but had lived in Ireland for over three years.
Mr Molloy said the defendant had been drinking too much at the time, and was sorry for his behaviour.
Mr Molloy said Marinko did not produce the knife or threaten anyone with it. He had it to cut sausages at a barbecue on the beach.
