Twenty-three Irish Film Workers’ Association members were awarded about €430,000 for employment rights breaches by the Workplace Relations Commission, reported on 30 December 2023.
The WRC found Metropolitan Films International Ltd was the workers’ ultimate employer and that many were entitled to permanent contracts; some were dismissed after asserting that right. The awards included €25,000 for dismissal-related penalisation in ten cases and €5,000 for contract statement breaches in 13 cases.
Metropolitan Films International Ltd later appealed the awards involving 23 workers. The Labour Court appeal notices had not set out grounds.
