Ferrys denies solicitor’s unfair dismissal claim as WRC hearing is adjourned

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Joseph McNally is pursuing an unfair dismissal complaint against Ferrys Solicitors LLP, alleging his October 2024 redundancy was a sham. Ferrys denies the claim and says it followed a proper redundancy process, after McNally turned down alternative work.

At the hearing, Ferrys partner Barry O’Donoghue disputed McNally’s account that staff shortages and departing employees left him occupied with existing clients rather than business development. McNally’s barrister argued that staff departures followed the firm’s refusal to accommodate remote working; O’Donoghue denied this and said staff left for other reasons.

The WRC hearing was adjourned to May.
