Families of five children with special needs resolved High Court actions over allegations of mental and physical abuse at their primary school, as reported on 8 May 2024.
The cases were listed before Mr Justice Barry O’Donnell but did not proceed after the parties reached an out-of-court arrangement. The children were to receive educational placements without involvement from the identified staff while a Child and Family Agency investigation continued.
The claims were denied, and the board made no concession on its investigations or on placing the staff members on administrative leave. The judge awarded the first applicant 25% of legal costs and made no costs order in the other four cases.
