Ethal Gavin’s gender and family status discrimination complaint against the Irish Prison Service was ruled out of time by the Workplace Relations Commission, in a decision dated 31 October 2023.
Gavin complained about her removal from the temporary Acting Campus Governor post in May 2018, effective from 2 June, and related treatment. She also alleged discrimination over promotional opportunities and victimisation.
The adjudication officer found no discriminatory acts within the six-month period considered, which ran from 24 September 2019 to 23 March 2020. The complaint was therefore statute barred, and the officer did not determine the merits of the original discrimination allegation.
