Eoghan O’Mahoney was acquitted of attempted murder by reason of insanity at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 6 November 2015. The charge arose from a knife attack on his grandmother in December 2013.

The jury heard that O’Mahoney was suffering acute psychosis during the attack, including paranoid delusions and voices in his head. Two psychiatrists agreed on his condition at the time.

The jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. O’Mahoney was due to return to court for further assessment on 16 November.
