Enoch Burke released after contempt of court imprisonment

By Saoirse Doyle

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Enoch Burke was released from Mountjoy Prison by the High Court after a hearing on 21 December 2022, following imprisonment for contempt of court.

The court ordered open-ended release after finding his continued imprisonment was no longer necessary; he had refused to purge his contempt and comply with orders keeping him away from Wilson’s Hospital School in Co Westmeath.

At the hearing, Burke said he could not participate in the release process because that would mean agreeing he had been lawfully incarcerated. The judge said release was not a “Christmas gift” and that the school could return to court if Burke breached an order.
