This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Eleanor Joel and Jonathan Costen’s appeals against convictions for unlawfully killing by neglect were adjourned in the Court of Appeal on 29 April 2015.
The convictions concerned the death of Evelyn Joel, a 59-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis, in Co Wexford in January 2006.
The court was told the appeal would not proceed until October after Eleanor Joel’s lawyers raised concerns about a judge’s possible bias. The matter was put back to 15 May to fix a hearing date, while a prosecution application for a review of the couple’s sentences was also listed.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
