Eamon Harrison faced an extradition hearing in the High Court in Dublin on 12 December 2019.
British authorities sought his surrender to face 39 counts of manslaughter, conspiracy to assist unlawful immigration and conspiracy to commit human trafficking.
The court heard recordings from mobile phones suggested some migrants may have remained alive after entering UK territorial waters.
His counsel, Siobhán Stack SC, questioned the warrant’s detail, including the alleged dangerous act and where the deaths occurred. She said it was not alleged that Harrison had placed the deceased in the trailer or knew that people, or 39 people, were inside it.
The hearing was to continue before Mr Justice Donald Binchy.
