"Some night out,” a judge has remarked after hearing how a 23-year-old charity worker damaged a Garda patrol van and smeared blood on a cell wall after being arrested at a Drogheda pub.

Adam Grimes, Rosepark, Balrothery, Balbriggan, Co. Dublin, pleaded guilty to two criminal damage and two public order charges following incidents which occurred on February 22 last.

Evidence was given of a disturbance at Weaver’s Pub, West Street, Drogheda, where a man was threatening and abusive to members of the public.

Gardaí arrested the defendant and placed him in the back of a patrol car. He kicked the doors causing them to bend out.

At Drogheda Garda Station he smeared his blood on the wall of a cell.

Barrister Eoghan Fagan said that his client was deeply remorseful.

He was unemployed and did charity work in Balbriggan.

Judge Nicola Andrews put the case back to May 18 for a probation report.

She told Mr Grimes to engage with the Probation Service, particularly around anger management.
