A Dublin man accused of a series of offences involving stolen vehicles is to have this case dealt with at District Court level, following a direction from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)

Ned Collins (21), of Collinstown Crescent, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, appeared at a sitting of Bray District Court via video link.

He is charged with driving without a valid licence, unauthorised taking of a vehicle, and handling stolen property.

The court previously heard that it is alleged that on January 19, Mr Collins and his co-accused, Sean Hutchinson, of Earlsfort Close, Lucan, were apprehended in the car park of the Beehive Pub in Brittas Bay, while allegedly driving two stolen vehicles.

Mr Collins was allegedly driving a Volkswagen Golf, which had been reported stolen from County Kildare.

Garda Conor Normoyle of Wicklow Garda Station remarked at a previous sitting that the alleged offences were “very serious” and could result in a custodial sentence.

Sergeant Mick Dee said that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has directed that the matter be dealt with at District Court level instead of the Circuit Criminal Court.

The court was told that Mr Collins is currently in custody on “more serious unrelated matters in Dublin”.

Solicitor for the accused, Joe Maguire, stated that he is instructed to apply for Mr Collins’s bail to be revoked.

Mr Collins told the court, “that’s grand,” adding, “I’m happy to surrender my bail.”

Judge David Kennedy adjourned the matter to allow the defendant to advise his solicitor how he intends to plead.
