The Director of Public Prosecutions sought a review of Stephen Connor’s two-and-a-half-year prison sentence, which was suspended in full, on grounds of undue leniency. The Court of Appeal’s judgment was delivered by Ms Justice Ní Raifeartaigh on 28 September 2020.
Connor pleaded guilty in July 2019 to assault causing harm, false imprisonment and producing a knife during a dispute. His pleas were entered on a full-facts basis, and a further count of threat to kill or cause serious harm was taken into consideration.
The judgment records that Garda Cahalin attended a house in Letterkenny, County Donegal, on 5 May 2018 and met Bríd Pierce, who was visibly injured.
