By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Irish High Court struck out proceedings brought by Djibouti president Ismael Omar Guelleh over alleged offensive posts about him on Facebook. When the case returned before the court, Mr Guelleh’s counsel said the proceedings could be struck out.

Mr Guelleh had sought orders to stop publication of material on certain Facebook accounts, suspend or close the accounts, remove the alleged offending material and disclose details identifying those associated with the accounts. Facebook Ireland was named because it handles accounts outside the United States and Canada.
