Declan Moran’s dangerous-driving sentence appeal dismissed

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Declan Moran’s appeal against a six-year sentence, with the final year suspended, for dangerous driving causing death was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 22 January 2019. He had pleaded guilty at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court and was also disqualified from driving for ten years.

The court found the sentence was not excessive, citing the seriousness of the offending, the harm caused, his previous relevant conviction and two other serious offences taken into consideration. It held that mitigation had been adequately reflected and upheld the sentence imposed by the sentencing judge.
